The 1971 Ford
Torino
was the most anticipated car of it's time.
Ford decided for its 1971
model year that they would limit changes to it's intermediate
line to minor revisions. The single biggest change in 1971 was
the descision to drop the Fairlane name, from the intermediate
line-up all together. The Falcon name would also not be making a
comeback in 1971. Fords
Torino
line consisted of 14 models. The base model being the 2 door
hardtop
Torino, followed by the 4 door sedan and the 4 door station
wagon. Next was the "Torino
500" which was available both as a 2 door hardtop and as a
SportsRoof, as well as a 4 door sedan and hardtop and a 4 door
station wagon. Even with 13 different models the
Torino
Brougham maintained it's rank at the top of the food chain.

The Car pictured above however is a complately different
animal and an Animal is exactly what it is. The Torino
Cobra
included a 351-4v rated at 285hp 213kw), a 4-speed manual with
the ever popular
Hurst Shifter, F770-14 tires with
Cobra
Emblems. Along with all this came compitition worthy suspension,
hubcaps and a blacked out grille. Another option offered for the
model was the reflective laser stripe which I have to say looks
really cool, This also remained an option for GT models. The
high performance 429
Cobra Jet
(pictured above) ran the quarter mile in 14.5 seconds with
stock parts and proffesional tuning at 102 miles per hour. With
only 1,613 Torino GT Convertibles and only 3,054 Torino
Cobras produced
in 1971. That my friends makes this one of the rarest Ford Race
worthy cars out there today. A "Brute From
Fords Snake Pit"
